Aard-winning luthier William Hancock (William Hancock Guitars) handcrafted this beautiful Hauser style classical guitar.
 
Hardware aside, this Piano Guitar is made from 100% repurposed materials from three different pianos, including one made by Berlin piano maker F. R. Schmidt.
 
 Black and white keys were used or inlays and decoration, and the maker’s name label from inside the lid of the piano has been repurposed and integrated into the headstock faceplate design.
 
“Hauser” style guitars are built in the style of the Hauser family of luthiers. The sonority of the Hauser model is a unique, independent development that took the modern classical guitar in a completely new direction and was the first major step in the internationalization of the instrument.
 
Based on its special virtuosity Hermann Hauser developed, techniques and patented innovations for the construction of tops and joints of the body with the neck. The great Spanish masters Miguel Llobet and Andres Segovia discovered the art of Hauser guitars in the early 20th century and were seduced by its charms. Today, the classical guitar is no more a purely Spanish instrument than the piano is Italian.
A "Hauser" has a focused sound with good separation, projection and balance across the trebles, mids and bass.

Will believes the sound of the instrument is paramount because good sound and great music are cornerstones to a healthy and happy human condition.
 
In November 2022 William won Gold in the Better Future New York Design Awards for Design Education with his ‘Toddler’ model guitar specifically designed for children!
Repurposing old timbers for new guitars has been an active part of his creative enterprise since he started it. While having repurposed a wide variety of waste and reclaimed timbers in his work as a luthier, he has discovered the best repurposing timbers for guitars come from old pianos. Part of the reason for this is that the tonewoods used originally have been seasoned beautifully.
 
Will has collaborated with Pianos Recycled in our three exhibitions and contributed two exemplary examples of his work for our most recent exhibition, The Piano Transformation Design Challenge 2023.
